Oceans cover more than 70% of Earth's surface. As you can see in this ranking, the Pacific is the world's largest ocean. Ocean depths vary greatly, but they are very scanty compared to their vast surface areas. It is estimated that the average depth is 4 km. The deepest parts are found in the Mariana Trench, where it goes down 11,033 meters. Oceans have a superficial layer of lukewarm water (12° -30°C) which goes down 50 to 500 meters. Under this layer the water is much cooler, with temperatures ranging between 5° and -1°C. This ranking orders the world's oceans according to their surface areas.
