Spain's terrain is very elevated and mountainous, with an average altitude of 660 meters. There are many mountain ranges that cover almost half of its national territory. The most noteworthy are: the Pyrenees (on the Northeast border) and the Betic Mountain Range (in the Southeast). In the center there is a great plateau. In comparing the different autonomous communities, Aragon has the highest average elevation, while the Balearic Islands have the lowest average altitude. As provinces go, the highest peaks are found in Avila, Soria and Leon, and they can be viewed in another Classora ranking.
