(6 votes)

The United States of America is comprised of 50 states and a federal district. 49 of these states are in North America and one is the Pacific Ocean. Together, they comprise the world's third most populated nation, after China and India. There are many contrasts between the different states and their populations. For example, the nine most populated states have a little more than half of the country's population, and the twenty-six least populated states have less than one sixth of the population. This ranking lists U.S. states by their population with data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.
