From the nineteenth century, with the new photographic techniques that allowed immediate and more faithful portraits, some painters became photographers or illustrators, whereas another painters began to believe in their personal inspiration and not in the commission of a customer. This ranking is based precisely on the artists, for which Spain has led great names throughout its history. In your opinion, what is the best painter Spanish of all time? Go ahead and participate!

In the 20th Century: Sorolla, the great Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí; from México: Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo; and may be the contemporary artists Antoni Tàpies, Cristóbal Toral, Antonio López, Ignacio Puras, Miquel Barceló, Juan Uslé...; really, there ar a lot and each one of them have his particular and charasteristic world.

Spanish pictural Art is the visual art made in Spain, and that of Spanish artists worldwide whilst an important contributor to Western Art (particulary influenced by Italy and France, especially during the Baroque and Neoclassical periods) and producing many famous and influential artists (including Diego Velázquez, Francisco de Goya, Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, Salvador Dalí & Joan Miró). Spanish Art has often had distinctive characteristics and been assessed somewhat separately from others European schools. These differences can be partly explained by the moorish heritage in Spain (particularly in Andalucía), and throught the political and cultural climate during the Counter-Reformation and the subsequent eclipse of Spanish power under the Bourbon dynasty. Actually there are a lot of original and creative painters, with international careers. Antoni Tápies, Miquel Barceló, Juan Muñoz, Antonio López García, Cristóbal Toral, Juan Genovés, Manolo Valdés, Ignacio Puras Trimiño, Eduardo Úrculo, Juan Martínez García, Manolo Sierra, Félix de la Concha are a few among the most recognized. analopetegui@terra.es
