(10 votes)

A bridge is a manmade construction that spans a geographic feature or any other physical obstacle like a river, canyon, valley, road or train track. A bridge's design depends on its function and the nature of the terrain where it is constructed. There are six main types of bridges: beam bridges, cantilever bridges, arch bridges, suspension bridges, cable-stayed bridges, and truss bridges. All other types of bridges are derived from these. This ranking lists the longest artificial bridges in the world, from the beginning of the XX century on, regardless of the type of bridge. Due to an evident lack of documentation, this list does not include previous eras in history (like Roman bridges, Medieval bridges... etc).
